PURPOSE OF
EPOXY
EPOXY ANCHORING IS USUALLY
ONE OF TWO REASONS:
1. GIVES THE CONTRACTOR/BUILDER OPTIONS FOR
PLACEMENT OF NECESSARY/MISSED ITEMS.
2. A REMEDY TO A FIELD DISCREPANCY THAT CAN BE FIXED IN A TIMELY MANNER AND THE LEAST COSTLY.
PURPOSE OF AN
INSPECTION?
A DEPUTY INSPECTORS JOB WHILE
PERFORMING AN EPOXY INSPECTION IS:
1. VERIFY APPROVED PLANS ARE BEING FOLLOWED
2. MATERIAL USED IS IN CONFORMANCE WITH
APPROVED DOCUMENTATION, LOCAL CODE,
AND THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTIONS.
DO I NEED A DEPUTY INSPECTION?
A DEPUTY INSPECTOR IS NEEDED EITHER WHEN THE ENGINEERED PLANS CALL OUT FOR A SPECIAL INSPECTION OR WHEN THE CITY INSPECTOR REQUIRES IT.
READY FOR INSPECTION? HERE IS OUR LIST:
1. HOLES HAVE BEEN DRILLED UTILIZING THE CORRECT DRILL BIT.
2. ALL CAVITIES HAVE BEEN BLOWN OUT USING COMPRESSED AIR & A BRUSH.
3. THE APPROVED OR EQUIVALENT EPOXY AND GUN ARE ON SITE OF THE JOB.
A Special Inspection by a Deputy Inspector for Epoxy will include the following items to be noted on the Deputy Inspector's Report:
•Epoxy type and expiration date will be verified to ensure that contractor is following the approved material stated on the approved set of plans
•Verification of the hole diameter - Most epoxy requires the hole to be at least 1/8" larger in diameter than the size of the rebar dowel or bolt being inserted in the hole
•The required embedment depth means embedment depth into actual concrete, and does not include the wood, such as a bottom sill plate when epoxying anchor bolts.
•The most utilized type of epoxy in the construction industry are Simpson and Hilty products, however your plan should indicate the type of epoxy required for your project specifically, the inspector is only required to be there after the holes have been drilled and before the injection of the epoxy.
